When valuables are stolen from your car, your out-of-network coverage does not always cover those damages. If insurers do, a high deductible usually applies. Furthermore, you must be able to prove that a burglary occurred and your belongings must not have been in plain sight. Carefully read the terms and conditions of the relevant insurance policy. If you are unable to solve the problem yourself, a member of staff will always be at your service. You can call 085 - 029 5170.
What does contents insurance cover for theft from car?
For contents insurance, only damage inside the house is covered. So all belongings are insured that were in the house during the burglary. Damage to items in an outbuilding (shed, garage, gazebo) is also covered. For valuable items outside the house (i.e. those you take with you on the road) you are not insured with contents insurance. To still secure your valuables, you can take out outhouse coverage.
What is out-of-home coverage?
With outdoor coverage, you are also insured against damage/theft of your valuables outside your home. This coverage applies only to items you actually use outside your home, such as a camera, sports equipment, a tablet and a laptop. Note that cell phones are often excluded. So you should check carefully what exclusions apply to your out-of-home coverage. Sometimes it also happens that this coverage is included by default in the contents insurance. So always check this well in advance.
There will only be more portable electronic devices in the future, so insurers will increasingly offer this coverage as an additional option. This coverage can then only be included for an additional premium. This is almost always a fixed premium, but depends on the deductible you choose. The premium can also differ because the coverage area may be different. You should check whether the coverage is only for the Netherlands or also worldwide.

Does car insurance provide coverage against theft damage?
Car insurance does not cover theft of (loose) items from the car. For example, the car radio really does belong to the car, so theft of this can be reported to the insurer.
What do I do in case of theft from my car?
